Historic Hyde Park opens its doors for the Eighth Annual Home Tour on March 6th, 2010. The theme of this year's event is "Celebrate the Bungalow." The tour, sponsored by the Historic Hyde Park Neighborhood Association (HHPNA), will feature at least eleven private homes in the neighborhood representing both period historic homes and also new construction which complements the historic neighborhood.
Included on the tour will be five residences along Bungalow Terrace, a mini-subdivision of nineteen houses facing each other across a sidewalk, and Tampa's only example of the Bungalow Court, a popular mode of construction in California from 1909 1930. Bungalow Court will highlight gracious living on a small scale which calls for innovation and in the case of the homes we will tour, illustrates a true sense of style.
In contrast, the tour will also go to the stunning Bayshore residence of Dr. and Mrs. Bernard Stein, a recently built home that has been under reconstruction for the past 4 years.
The Historic Hyde Park Neighborhood Association will offer several other exciting elements in conjunction with the home tour which include a display exhibition at the Tampa History Center during the month of March 2010 featuring "The Bungalow," and a featured film documentary produced and directed by historic preservation specialist Del Acosta which will provide an overview of the area and the bungalow, highlighting its social and cultural context.
Our goal for the 2010 Home Tour is to offer unique education and programs in parallel to the home tour so that we can increase awareness of historic preservation among a broader audience.
Antique cars are making a return appearance at the Tour. The Model A Ford Club of Tampa Bay (MAFCTB) will display their beautifully restored cars at each home, enhancing the historic-period ambiance.
The tour will be open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We will also feature tastings from area restauranteurs. The Tour begins at Kate Jackson Center, 821 S. Rome, between Morrison and Bristol. Advance ticket holders will need to exchange their tickets or vouchers for a Tour-ID wrist band that all walkers will need to enter the homes. There, you will also receive a booklet with information about the homes and map for the walking tour.
We will also be featuring advanced ticket sales at area locations (cash or check onlyl) to be determined.
